Simple isn't easy

Simple isn’t easy

August 29, 2016
Simple is never easy. For instance, TiVo is fast, easy, and simple. VCRs? Not so much, though both basically provide the same service. IPads are easy and simple while desktop computers aren’t. I have taught the basics of computers in a lot of different settings and have found that typing and mouse skills are two of the hardest things to teach. A computer mouse is not an intuitive device, whereas swiping and pointing on a tablet comes with ease and makes perfect sense.

The problem a lot of us have is overcomplicating things. It makes us feel important and smart when we do overcomplicate. Not many people take, “Hey, that is really simple!” as a compliment, or “Hey, you are simple person,” as a compliment, but they should.

The things that are simple and easy tend to be the things we are drawn to. Personally, I love Chick-Fil-A because of the simplicity of their menu. If you look at all of the fast food restaurants out there, most of them offer so many things on their menu that it can be confusing. Have you looked at a Jack in the Box menu lately?

Simple isn’t easy; it takes time, effort, and lots of energy to get that combination right.
